Gustafson Porter + Bowman designed the 5th floor roof terrace of this new development in the City of London, with dramatic views of St. Paul’s, just a few streets away, and other London landmarks such as The Shard in the distance.
I was involved in the design, modelling, and drawing package for the centrepiece of the roof: a 105 metre-long bench formed from a single sinuous ribbon of white Corian. The ribbon weaves across the terrace, creating varied seating ‘pockets’, and enclosing a series of planted landforms that bring colour and movement to the rooftop.
The ribbon blends between different configurations: from high- and low-depth seating, transitioning into an inclined wall, through to backless benches, and so on.
